Latvian FinTech in Berlin: Building Connections, Opening Doors
What does a Latvian fintech delegation look for when heading to Berlin? New connections, new opportunities, and the relationships needed to grow in one of Europe’s most important financial and technology markets.
This autumn, Fintech Latvia Association, together with LIAA, brought a group of Latvian fintech companies to Berlin for a series of meetings with investors, banks, financial institutions, technology companies, and ecosystem organisations.
For us as an association, such visits are about more than a packed schedule of meetings. They are about creating space for Latvian companies to introduce themselves, understand the market, find the right people to talk to, and start building relationships that continue long after the delegation returns home.
Germany is already an important market for Latvia’s fintech sector. Around 30% of demand on Latvian investment platforms comes from German investors, making Germany a natural market for Latvian companies looking to expand their international reach. Berlin is also a key fintech hub within Germany. More than two-thirds of the country’s fintech companies are based in the capital, which attracts around 90% of Germany’s fintech venture capital. For Latvian companies, being present in Berlin means getting closer to investors, potential partners, financial institutions, and the wider European fintech network.
Throughout the visit, discussions covered several areas that matter to companies scaling across borders: access to capital and investment, strategic partnerships, entering the German market, as well as Latvia’s regulatory environment, including MiCA and licensing opportunities.
But the most valuable part of a business mission is often what happens beyond the formal agenda. A first introduction leads to a follow-up meeting. A conversation opens the door to a new partnership. One connection introduces another.
As Tīna Lūse, Managing Director of Fintech Latvia Association, put it: “We want to make new connections, take the first steps, the next steps, and as many steps as needed to build relationships in the German market and meet new partners.”
This is also where we see the role of Fintech Latvia Association. We connect the Latvian fintech community with international ecosystems, create opportunities for our members to represent Latvia abroad, and help turn individual conversations into longer-term relationships. The Berlin visit was a strong example of what happens when the ecosystem comes together. Latvian fintech companies brought their expertise and ambitions, while our partners helped open doors and create the right environment for meaningful conversations.
We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the visit, including LIAA, House of Finance & Tech Berlin, Digital Invest Germany, and all the organisations and individuals who shared their time, knowledge, and connections.
From Riga to Berlin, one thing became clear: international growth starts with a conversation. Then comes the next one, and the next.
For Latvia’s fintech ecosystem, Berlin is not only a destination. It is a market, a network, and an opportunity to build relationships for the long term.
